Crave Cookies & Cupcakes: the Sweetest Parties in Calgary

Everyone knows how much I love Crave Cookies and Cupcakes. I met the Crave founders once, and I went a little crazy-fangirl on them. Like, maybe I was a little scary. Luckily, I wasn't too insane, and they were happy to host a birthday party for my daughter!

That's right - you already knew you could buy delicious cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods at Crave. But did you know you can have a party there?? Here's the low-down.

Price

$375 for 8 children. This looks like a lot at first, but consider the breakdown. You get:
  • 2 cupcakes for each child to decorate ($48)
  • A 6-inch cake ($35)
This brings the cost for the party itself down to $292. That includes loot bags, snacks, games, AND two party hosts to do all the work for you! They really pack a lot into these parties, as well - read on to learn about what makes these parties so special.

The price is comparable to what other venues in Calgary charge for a party, especially when you have employees running the show for you. I love this, because it means I can focus on taking photos and enjoying the party. Without party hosts, I am so busy trying to keep all the kids entertained, I'm lucky to snap a couple of cake photos!

What You Get

The best thing about the parties at Crave is that you get EVERYTHING. Loot bags are included. Food is included. Everything is done for you. You just show up and have fun!

More specifically, though, you get...

1) 1.5 hours in the private party room at Crave's Aspen Landing bakery.

Large windows flood the Crave party room with natural light. If you've been to a Crave bakery, you won't be surprised to know that it's beautiful, modern, and sparkling clean.

2) A cake

OMG you guys. Crave cakes are THE BEST. Seriously the best. You / your child can choose the cake and icing flavours, and they personalize it for you.

3) Two cupcakes for every guest to decorate and bring home.

The kids loved decorating their cupcakes. You could have heard a pin drop when they were learning how to pipe icing.

My daughter got to choose (ahead of time) which flavours she wanted for the cake and icing to assemble cupcakes with at the party.

Some party guests ate and decorated simultaneously.

4) Crafts and games

The activities at each party are age-specific, so they will vary. At our party, the kids did some colouring, played "pin the candle on the cupcake," decorated their candy boxes (for loot bags), and played a fun circle game.

5) A photo booth

The kids had a great time dressing up for their photo booth picture! Then they were shepherded into their next activity while the snapshots printed - every guest got a copy of the picture in their loot bag.

My daughter has the photo taped to her wall. We almost never get a chance to cram all of her friends into one picture, so this was a very special touch.

6) Snacks

Before the sugar-fest began, the Crave hosts were able to get some nutritious food into the kids. You can choose from: veggies or fruit; goldfish crackers or pretzels; and iced tea or lemonade. They can cater to kids with dietary restrictions, as well.

Also, the crackers are in miniature mixing bowls!!! Holy cute.

7) A behind-the-scenes tour of the Crave kitchen

It's possible that I was even more excited than the kids to get a peek behind the scenes. Our hosts gave us a full tour of the bakery's kitchen. She focused on the bits that kids love: the enormous vat of frosting and the giant mixer were both hits.

The kids' favourite parts, though, were the walk-in fridge and the power-sprayer in the sink. They thought the fridge was awesome, and the host took the time to explain that unsold cupcakes are saved at the end of every day for the food bank.

The spray hose in the bakery's industrial sink was also fantastic - the kids lined up to try it. If only all kids were so excited about doing dishes!

8) Loot bags

The loot bags were assembled on the counter as the party progressed. They included the kids' colouring sheets, their photo booth picture, the cupcakes they decorated, and a glossy white box full of candy.

They decorated the candy boxes before filling them, which I thought was a nice touch.

What I Loved

I was really impressed by how seamless this party was. While the kids were doing a craft, the snack was being prepared. While the snack was getting cleaned up on one side of the room, the kids were on the other side doing the photo booth. The whole party progressed this way. Having two hosts made the party incredibly organized, with no waiting for things to happen.

Also, have I mentioned the CAKE? Yes, multiple times? That's how good it is, you guys.

I also really, really loved the tiny Crave aprons. THEY SELL THE TINY CRAVE APRONS. It was insanely cute to see all the tiny bakers in their aprons making cupcakes!

Another great thing about parties at Crave: the party room is gorgeous. The decor is lovely, and the room has tons of natural light. This means you will get beautiful photos, that require minimal editing.

Overall, the party was really wonderful. The kids had a great time - one of them has already asked his mom to have HIS party at Crave, too. I had fun because I got to relax and eat cake, two of my favourite things.

Tons of games and activities, healthy snacks, lots of sugar, a VIP tour, and beautiful photos? That's a recipe for the sweetest parties in town.

Full disclosure: I was compensated for this post, but the party was every bit as awesome as I am telling you. See pictures for proof!

  7. This looks like so much fun!! You never realize how much parties cost but when you add it up they are well over the $300 mark. This event looks so organized and no clean up(before and after) is so worth the money!
