Little Sunflowers: the Best & Brightest Kids' Clothes

Sometimes when I am searching for clothes for my son, I wonder why American clothing manufacturers can't use COLOUR for boys' clothes. I have discovered the answer: all the colours are being used up by the UK.

My very favourite place to buy these amazing kids' clothes is Little Sunflowers. All of the tops pictured here came from this shop. My kids love them too, because in addition to being insanely stylish, they are all super-comfortable.

Little Sunflowers is a family-owned business in the UK, but their shipping to North America is crazy-fast. AND I've never had to pay duty on an order! I can't guarantee the latter, obviously, but they seem to have some post-office magic going on.

When you check out their website, be sure to sign up for the Little Sunflowers newsletter as well. You'll get 15% off your first order, and their newsletter is AWESOME. I have never said that about a newsletter before, but Bev, one of the owners, writes a bit about her family in each one, and it reads like a serialized novel. I love it.

Clothes from Little Sunflowers always make people stop and stare. European clothing manufacturers are not afraid of colour (even for boys - gasp!), and they produce some seriously rockin' prints. Other parents ask me about these clothes all the time, so I decided to share my secret source!

One of my favourite brands is Molo. Their clothes have incredible photographic patterns that change every season. I got a "camper" shirt for my son.

You can see it better in person, but it the pattern has maps, paddles, hiking boots, a sheath of arrows, flannel blankets, and fishing bait. I'm totally obsessed with it. It's bright and colourful, but not at all girly or effeminate.

The Molo sweatshirt I got for my daughter is called "Marika," and it has a bunnies-in-space pattern. It has a bunch of colourful geodes under the bunnies, and it's soft inside - not scratchy like some sweatshirts are.

It's also warm and cozy - perfect for a chilly fall day.

The other brand I LOVE for patterns is Småfolk, a Danish 70's-inspired brand. Look at this ambulance shirt!

Perhaps you've heard there's going to be a Lego shortage this Christmas. Did you know that Lego makes clothes as well? No? That's because they only sell them secretly in the UK. Check out this adorable Duplo elephant t-shirt!!

If your Lego fan already owns every set, or if all the Lego is sold out, buy one of these. They are really soft and very high quality.

This panda shirt by Lilly and Sid is another one of my favourites. The panda's hat lifts up, and there's a banana underneath. My son gets a huge kick out of this - funniest shirt ever.

But it's not just about boys' clothes at Little Sunflowers. When I hit up American stores, the girls' t-shirts always have cutesy slogans like "I need a hero" or "Adorable!" That just doesn't suit my daughter's personality - she's a fireball. Check the girls' stuff at Little Sunflowers. Roaring panther!!

I challenge you to find a wild cat shirt in North America where the cat doesn't look tame. Speaking of which, it's time for derby-inspired roller skate tank!

Listen, these clothes are not cheap, but the quality is unbeatable. I buy items from Little Sunflowers as special gifts for my kids, for birthdays or Christmas.

They get basic clothing items from somewhere cheap at the mall, and I top off their wardrobes with awesome clothing items from this store. I usually buy things just a bit big so that they'll fit longer (don't worry - they won't wear out). I also layer tees and tanks from Little Sunflowers over basic long-sleeve shirts. This way, the kids can wear their summer gear into fall and winter!

Do you love all of these things as much as I do? Make an order for Christmas!

Full Disclosure: I was provided samples for review, but I have shopped here lots of times, and I have the receipts to prove it.

  1. Those clothes are so cute! I love the girls styles that aren't precious and the color for boys? Yes! I have been so frustrated because my son loves purple and some years I cannot find a purple boys shirt to save my life. (and the girls ones all look sooo girly).

  4. Awww Katie that is an amazing review, thank you so very much! Naturally we are magicians with the duty... (not really). When goods are sent from the UK via courier there is complex paperwork. Every country of manufacture and the composition of every garment has to be declared, it's what's known as an HS Code. The recipient is then charged duty, the rate of which varies depending on the product, the country, even the State to which it's going in Canada. And the courier is also obliged to charge duty on the cost of shipping and insurance at that rate. As at today Royal Mail in the UK is not required to gather that information because the service is used by consumers as well as businesses. So there is a massively reduced chance of that happening and it's always worked well for us. Occasionally duty gets charged so it does happen, but it's rare in our experience. That's why we send all our packages to Canada and the US via The Royal Mail. Packages also seem to get through customs more quickly that way. It costs us a little more but it's worth it. And as Jo-Anna said: your kids are adorable!

  5. Katie you're so right...the Brits and Europeans are way ahead on the fashion front! My aunt in Germany used to send me clothes for the kids when they were little and always good quality and colourful...and their favourites! And yikes I heard about the lego shortage too...I need to start shopping!
